standing at 90 meters tall.It has become a major tourist destination in
the area.
The Mountain was literally cut in half and a
Buddha image was carved on the exposed rockface. A laser was used to
survey the image. Imported Italian gold leaf was used to create the
outline of the image. HRH The crown prince opened it and presided over
the dedication ceremony to the King of Thailand.
Now with Manicured gardens at the foot of
the mountain, it is a pleasant place to stroll and listen to the large
variety of wild birds sing.
It is frequented by tourists from around the
world, especially other Asian Buddhist countries. Monks can be seen
often, paying their respects. The Image and gardens are protected by
volunteers from the Royal thai Navy and the young men can be seen
patrolling the site keeping people off the grass and suchlike by
blowing a whistle at offenders.
